Diagnostic Nasal Endoscopy

During your visits to the NYSI, our physicians will carefully examine your nasal cavity and sinuses utilizing a simple procedure called Diagnostic Nasal Endoscopy. First, your nose will be carefully anesthetized using a low-reactive safe topical (non-injectable) spray. This medicated spray also has a decongestive effect, which will allow for a safer and more thorough exam.

Once anesthetized, a small pediatric sized rigid nasal endoscope attached to a state of the art camera will be carefully guided into the nasal cavity and sinuses. The entire exam should last approximately 1-2 minutes depending on the findings. Our physicians are highly cognizant of our patients well-being and will make necessary adjustments to obtain a complete exam while maintaining patient safety and comfort. You will be able to observe your exam with your physician either simultaneously or immediately after the examination allowing your physician to better explain the findings and treatment options with you.

While patient history provides much of the clues for diagnosis and subsequent treatment for sinus problems, the ability to perform a thorough endoscopic exam is what separates the a sinus specialist from other physicians. The Diagnostic Nasal Endoscopy is the cornerstone to formulating an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan in the vast majority of cases. It also allows your physician at the NYSI to formulate an individualized treatment plan for you and assess your progress and the success of various treatments used.
